Way to go, America. You claimed to be tired of being called racist and insisted that DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) was unnecessary. Yet, when given the choice between a younger, highly qualified Woman of Color and an older, incompetent White man, you chose the same man you voted out four years ago.
The same man whose first term was marked by:
Mishandling a global pandemic, contributing to hundreds of thousands of preventable American deaths.
Threatening to shoot protesters exercising their First Amendment rights.
Empowering hate groups like the Proud Boys, telling them to “stand back and stand by” during a 2020 presidential debate.
Being labeled a fascist by high-ranking U.S. generals and deemed incompetent by members of his own administration.
Making sexist and degrading remarks about women, including the infamous Access Hollywood tape before his first election.
Then, after being voted out in 2020, he:
Incited an insurrection on January 6, 2021, encouraging his supporters to march to the Capitol in an attempt to overturn the election results.
Was found liable for sexual assault and defamation in a 2023 civil trial, resulting in a $5 million judgment.
And yet… America put him back in power.
What happened?
America, you fell for the same illusion of power that has deceived generations. You’ve rationalized your decision, believing that “nothing really changes”, while the very policies of this administration ensure that hardship remains a choice—but only for the working class.
Meanwhile, the wealthy elites who mock you—the ones who say “poverty is a mindset”—watch as you work, medicate, and consume yourself to exhaustion, making them even richer.
So go ahead. Tell yourself whatever you need to hear to sleep at night. But remember: you had the chance to move forward, and instead, you chose to walk backward—again.
The pendulum swings back and forth, but only because you allow it to.
